(11/16) PrP Option 1
The PrP Option 1 has been graded. Few of view managed to
submit an empty or corrupt .zip or .tar file or file say
x.tar where one file y.java was in fact a tar or a zip file itself.
For the 10th to 100th time: test before you submit.
Approximately one third of you submitted a zip
(few of you a tar file) that when
unzipped or untarred created a directory. In PrP Option 2,
I will deduct 80pts for such a case. The such deducted points will be
assigned to the students who did the right thing.
-

(10/30) Exam 1 in Canvas
Those of who who submitted the Report-Grade-for-Exam1 quiz you should be able
to see the point total of your Exam 1 in canvas. Note the official grade
is the paper grade; i have double checked that the recorded in canvas grade
is indeed the correct one as shown on the paper Exam 1. Those of you who did
not submit the quiz mentioned above, canvas records either a dash or 0 as
there has been no submission recorded for a grade to become available.

HW1-HW4,EX1 (480pts total) in section C of the course web-page.

(10/22) Reporting grade after Exam 1 is graded
For the paper in-class Exam 1 I will utilize afterwards
a Report-Grade-for-Exam1 quiz in canvas to report just the grade total
for each one of you. But for this you need to submit ONCE. The quiz
would be available at noon time of the day of the exam for roughly two
days. If you submit you will say a numeric grade after the paper exam is
graded. If you do not submit, you wait until the paper exam is returned
to you graded in class at around 7:30pm.
So far (10/27@16:20) response rate is around 33%.
-
(10/19) Exam 1 material
Exam 1 will cover the sections of the designated textbook as
indicated on the cover pages of Subject (typewritten notes) 1,2,3,4,
and 5. Subject 6 and Subject 8 covered in class or to be covered on
10/20 will not be in the exam. Note that the Subjects and the
accompanying handwritten notes (aka what we did in class) contain
additional material that IS in the EXAM.
A good source of practice are the relevant PS (Problem Sets) such
as PS1-PS5, the homeworks given, and practice problems at the end
of a chapter of the designated textbook.
A guidance on what an exam could look like is provided by the
practice Midterm exams on the course web-page (Section C).
Some of them are even provided with sample solutions.

Earlier on that day a Report-Grade-for-Exam1 quiz will be made
available in canvas (12am on Oct 27) and would remain so until
midnight of Oct 29. If you 'submit it', I will use it as space
to provide you the grade of the paper Exam 1. If you do not
'submit it', it won't be possible for me to report your grade through
canvas, and you will have to wait to receive the graded paper
on (hopefully) Nov 3 during the break of 7:30pm.
The 'quiz' has a 5 minute count-down waiting
for a YES or NO to a simple question!

-
(9/15) HW1 question 5
There are some typos there or some things that
might confuse you:
(a) a Handout 3 is a typo for Document 2,
(b) Around i-j you have a left and right parenthesis;
these are parentheses, not absolute value, and
(c) the sentence "We only need" ends with an exclamation
mark after B(n), not with a factorial symbol!
(and so did this sentence ended after the word symbol)
-
(9/8) Ida disruption
The availability of HW1 has been extended two
more days (48 hours) to account for the disruption of Ida.

First Class and First week
By now you should have received a Welcome note from me,
the instructor. The email was sent to the (email)
address of record that NJIT maintains for you.
Our first class is Wed 1 Sep. Note that NJIT requires mask-wearing
irrespective of vaccination status. The next (second) class
would be Wed 15 Sep as NJIT follows a Monday schedule
on Wed 8 Sep (Labor Day adjustment).
There will be a room change for my office hours
in the first two weeks. NJIT plans to change the
carpet but they have not done anything yet, but
they are about to start to do so.
I will post more info as soon as it is
available. I will be using
GITC 4325 if my office is unavailable!
I usually handout out the syllabus
(Document 1) in hard-copy during the first
class. I will not do so this semester due to covid-19
precautions. The official syllabus in PDF is
available through section B in addition to the
unofficial HTML version of it.
