1. Exam2 would be available in Canvas Quizzes and would be publicized as Exam2-Gerbessiotis 2. Exam 2 starts as specified by the Registrar in the Registrar's web-page. CHECK THE REGISTRAR'S WEB-PAGE AGAIN and also on LAST READING DAY TO CONFIRM IT or to find the corrected actual date/day/time. 3. The exam link would be published the previous night. Read Document 2 before. Read the meaning of the word published vs doable, vs accessible, etc. Here are the instructions as they will be shown in the Exam2 area. Read them in advance to save time! The first, the last, and the penultimate questions are given for your convenience. ------------------------------------------------- Quiz Details (also known as Exam Instructions or Exam Details) follow and were given to you in advance. This is Exam 2, the final exam. It is 120mn and worth 360pt. It contains 11 questions but 8 DSA problems. Aim at completing 3-4pt per minute. The non DSA questions are Q1, Q10, and Q11. Logistics below will remain the same in all exams. This is a canvas exam utilizing ProctorU Record+ (formerly, ProctorU Review+). Instructions re ProctorU are available in Document 2 (Canvas Announcements) and also at Canvas Orientation for Students available by IST at NJIT. It is possible that ProctorU will add one or two URLs at the start of these instructions. The URLs might point to the location of a Chrome and/or Firefox plugin. But hopefully you will have it already installed to your Chrome browser by then. [2blank SHEETs specially marked and displayed at start and end of exam; 3 special questions] For the first and last question you show the 4 scratch pages of 2 sheets at the start and the end of the exam and by doing so you get, if you also answer the corresponding question 1pt per question.(As noted in Document 2, at the top of each of the 4 pages of the 2 sheets, you include your last name in capital case, then your first/given n ame with the first letter in capital case and remaining letters in lower case, followed by a 1of4 , 2of4, 3of4, and 4of4 as needed). The penultimate (question before the last) question is parking space, in case you want to type in something for a problem that you (rightly and provenly) think the statement is inconsistent with the course materials and you cannot type in your answer/comments; if you have nothing to report just ignore it by typing N/A for non-applicable. When you interact with the sheets your head is in front of the camera and the sheets in front of you. [Calculator and Pen/cil.] You may also use a scientific calculator and a pencil or pen with your sheets. Only the items mentioned in the two paragraphs above are allowed and under the condition explained above. Otherwise the EXAM is CLOSED everything. NOTHING ELSE IS ALLOWED. Read Document 2 (available in Canvas Announcements). Make sure all of your face is in front of the computer camera used for Proctoring. Do not turn around. If you need to type in an answer precede it with the question number in parentheses: for example (1) or (Q1) or (2.b) or (Q2.b). 'Give an algorithm' means , present the algorithm, show that it works as claimed, and analyze its running time by providing an asymptotically tight bound. Giving a piece of code won't get you any points. Efficient means an algorithm whose performance (space or time or both) cannot be improved upon asymptotically. In CS610 performance is worst-case derived. Thus a HashMap answer will get you 0pts not just for the problem in question but also for the Exam. Time efficient means asymptotic time efficiency cannot be improved upon. Space efficiency is to be interpreted likewise. Comparison efficient means the number of comparisons cannot be improved upon and thus constants are important for higher-order terms: thus $\Theta (n)$ is worse than $3n$ and $3n$ is worse than $2n+o(n)$. Use T(.) for running time, S(.) for space resources, and C(.) for comparison counts with a parameter as needed. INCR = < 1, 2, ... , n-1, n> is the sorted sequence of the first n positive integers starting with 1. DECR = < n, n-1, ... , 2, 1> is the reverse sorted sequence of the first n positive integers starting with n. ------------------------------------------------- Moreover here is the first question: Q1 Confirm either that (a) you have shown the four pages of the two sheets of scratch space in front of the camera at the start of the exam, as specified in exam details or (b) you have not shown any scratch pages at the start of the exam because you do not have around you any scratch pages, and thus you do not plan to use them. If you are found to be using scratch pages you will get a 0 in the exam and will be reported to the Dean of Students. Furthermore, if ProctorU detects earphones, headphones, earpods, etc exam get 0pts an d you are headed to the Dean of Students as well. Exam will be graded 0pt I confirm either part (a) or part (b) as needed ----------------------------- Moreover here is the penultimate question: ------------------------------------------------- Q10 This is emergency space... If you think that something doesnot make sense (and you are right) then make a note in this space. You need to indicate problem number and subproblem number and then write your note including a solution. If there is no problem with the specific problem/question/subquestion, text will be ignored otherwise grade will be adjusted. Write N/A for Not Applicable to collect the 1 pt if you have no comments. ------------------------------------------------- Moreover here is the ultimate (last) question: Q11 Confirm either that (a) you have shown the four pages of the two sheets of scratch space in front of the camera at the END of the exam, as specified in exam details, or (b) you have not shown any scratch pages at the END of the exam because you do not have around you any scratch pages, and thus you did not use them. If you are found to be using scratch pages you will get a 0 in the exam and will be reported to the Dean of Students. Furthermore, if ProctorU detects earphones, headphones, earpods, etc exam get 0pts an d you are headed to the Dean of Students as well. Exam will be graded 0 pt I confirm either part (a) or part (b) as needed -----------------------
