Welcome to the website of Prof. Matthew Bandelt's Research Group at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Dr. Bandelt conducts experimental and computational research on durable, damage-tolerant, and sustainable building materials and structural systems. The main goal of his research is to develop guidelines to design with, and predict the performance of, novel materials and systems that can improve the performance of the built environment under harsh mechanical and environmental conditions. His teaching interests are in the areas of mechanics, materials, structural analysis, and structural design at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr. Bandelt joined the John A. Reif, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NJIT in July 2015. He received his PhD in civil and environmental engineering from Stanford University in 2015 with a concentration in structural engineering, and his bachelors and masters degrees in civil engineering from Villanova University, both with concentrations in structural engineering. Dr. Bandelt is the recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP), the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Fred R. Havens Fellowships, and the John A. Blume Fellowship from Stanford University. He is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in the State of New Jersey and the Commonweatlh of Pennsylvania.
