BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Dr. Sparks was Lopata Professor of Chemical Engineering at Washington University until 1995, when, along with the other personnel of his laboratory, he resigned to form Particle and Coating Technologies, a company focused on development and licensing of new processes and products.

After a Chemistry degree from the University of Missouri and a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Johns Hopkins, he worked at Exxon and then joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve University before moving to Washington University. Dr. Sparks has received student, university and national teaching awards.

He has served on the Scientific Council of the Red Cross and NIH Study Sections, was President of the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, is a Founding Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and was a member of the Board of Governors of the Controlled Release Society.
