Recommended Places to Spend Money

Legal Grounds Cafe
170 Grand Street

By train: take the PATH to Grove Street and exit opposite the escalators. Walk up the stairs and continue to walk towards Marin Blvd (about 100 feet). Turn right onto Marin Blvd and walk a few lights to the end, which is Grand Street. Turn right on Grand and a few storefronts down is Legal Grounds on the left. On the right is the Statue of Liberty (in the distance).

I don't know about you, but I love espresso! Real espresso is hard to find, but not at Legal Grounds. This place also has tons of yummy snacks, sandwiches, and a relaxing environment. Free Internet (I think). It's definitely worth the trip if you're into coffee

La Conguita
351 Grove Street, corner of Bay Street

By train: take the PATH to Grove Street and exit through the escalators. Cross the street (Newark Avenue) and, if you're facing Dunkin Donuts, walk towards your left a few feet to Grove Street. Turn right onto Grove Street and walk a couple of blocks and La Conquita is on your left.

I call this place cafe con leche, which simply means coffee with milk aka latte. They make really good cafe con leches, but their food is amazing. Its cheap - super cheap - cuban food. The service is slow, but that is the only bad thing. The food is my favorite and I try to have their cuban cheeseburgers as much as possible.

Janam Indian Tea
353 Grove Street, corner of Bay Street

By Train: follow directions to La Conguita. Janam is across the street.

This place just opened up and there is a picture of the storefront in my documentary! The place is really relaxing, unique, and serves pretty good tea. I don't know much about tea, but I like it! Good snacks too.

Melt
581 Jersey Avenue

By Train: take the PATH to Grove street and exit through the escalators. Cross the street (Newark Avenue) and, if you're facing Dunkin Donuts, walk towards your left a few feet to Grove Street. Turn right onto Grove Street and walk to 2nd Street (about 3 blocks). Turn left on 2nd Street and walk two blocks to Jersey Avenue. Turn right on Jersey and Melt is on the corner of 3rd Street and Jersey Avenue.

Gourmet grilled cheese and worth every penny! The owner is a restaurant accountant turned entrepreneur. They serve grilled cheese sandwiches unlike anything you've had before. They also have good coffee, really good dessert and interesting other things.

More Images of Jersey City

Just when you thought there couldn't be anymore images, here are some! These images are high resolution panoramic's, taken by me with my then $200 Olympus 2.0 megapixel camera. The images came out really well and will take a small amount of time to download unless you're on the NJIT Intranet. Enjoy these images.
