Students with a small number of deficiencies can make them up at NJIT. They will take these courses first, as assigned by their advisor.
These are the most common deficiencies encountered by incoming students, along with the courses they should take to overcome them.

Calculus I Math 111
Students who are not sure that their background is sufficient to pass Calculus I should get evaluated by the Math department.
C++ CIS 113
Students who have experience in Visual Basic but not in C++ take CIS 113 instead of CPT 341.
Database management Essex County College database administration
Once admitted at NJIT students can take courses at Essex County College with their advisor's permission (a form must be signed by the advisor with the name and number of the course to take).
