Matlab

Software. Matlab and its toolboxes are required for many systems courses ( for example, ECE 232, ECE 333, ECE431, ECE660 and others). NJIT students on campus can download the required software by clicking the following link

The current release of Matlab is R2010a and requires about 2Gbyte of hard disk space.  Installation is complex.  Get instructions from above source, and print them out for reference before attempting installation.

Instructions for obtaining the software from an offsite computer can also be obtained from this link.

If, after using Matlab for some time, you get a message that the license has expired, get a new license number from the above link.  Then rerun the installation.  A message will appear asking whether this is a license update.  Select that button, paste the new license number in the window and you are finished.

Documentation. The downloaded software comes with extensive documentation in HTML format. In addition, you can download and print the documentation in PDF format from the Mathworks web site. The documentation in either format is voluminous.

There are many after-market books on Matlab. (Check the on-line booksellers) A book that appears readable and comprehensive is:  Mastering MATLAB x [where x is the version of Matlab you are interested in]: A Comprehensive Tutorial and Reference, by D. Hanselman and B. Littlefield. A comparable book for Simulink is: Mastering Simulink , by J.B. Dabney and T.L. Harman.   New editions of these books appear with each new version of Matlab, but older editions will also be useful.

There are many other books, ranging from primers to books on Matlab programming and on specific applications.
