Neurochemical oscillations in the basal ganglia

The present work is a mathematical investigation of the neurochemical processes from synaptic level up to macroscopic neurocircuitries. Inspired by the dopamine hypothesis of schizophrenia, the dynamical behavior of the extracellular neurotransmitter concentrations was analyzed. It appears that in general, there exist neurochemical oscillations that are in correlation with the mental state of the patients. Further studies on alcoholism agreed with this hypothesis.
