Using Phase Response Curves to Infer the Activity of Feed-back Neuronal Networks with Synaptic Depression

Abstract

In a network of two reciprocally inhibitory neurons, the firing time of each neuron as well as the synaptic strength affects the period of the other one. Assume that the perturbations on the postsynaptic neuron from the spiking of the presynaptic neuron are similar to those used to generate its phase response curves. A PRC based method without the assumption of weak coupling was derived to determine the phase locked activity of the mutually coupled network when synapses have short-term synaptic plasticity. By analyzing the effects of the synaptic depression on the network, we find the phase locked activity of the feedback network with synaptic depression from the steady state solution of the network without synaptic depression.
