Quick Start for Entrepreneurs - The SBIR Grant

On Thursday, October 28th, 1999, the IEEE Consultants' Network of Northern
NJ will present "Quick Start for Entrepreneurs - The SBIR Grant", a panel
discussion and presentation with experts actively involved in the Small
Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program.

ABOUT THE TOPIC
The SBIR Program is a unique source of seed money intended to help embryonic
companies develop and commercialize their new product ideas.  Unlike some
other government grant programs, it has been structured for minimal
paperwork and formality, is mandated for small businesses only, and allows
the start-up company to retain full ownership of the products being
developed under the grants.

* Mike Miller , SBIR  Liaison for the State of New Jersey, will provide an
overview of the federal SBIR/STTR program, how to access it, and offer some
tips on competing successfully.

* Randy Harmon, NJ Small Business Development Center , will speak on SBIR
and other new NJ technology grant initiatives available to entrepreneurs or
small businesses.

* Peter Schutz, a CNNNJ member, will discuss his experience as a Phase I
grant  award winner.  The Phase I grant which was awarded by the USDA for
the development of a Thermo-Moisture Probe for measuring moisture content in
powders, slurries, pastes, and thick liquids.
