Dear Student,

Welcome to the new academic year at NJIT and welcome to
CS 100, Roadmap to Computing.

This is a new and innovative course, designed to give
you a strong start in your computing studies and to
capture some of the excitement of the field of
computing.

Attached is the course syllabus. I want to call
particular attention, before the first class, to two
course policies:

i. Attendance is mandatory. More than five absences and
you will be dropped from the course.

ii. You should expect to spend at least as much time
working on the course outside of class as in class. You
should sign up for and attend a weekly study/homework
session in GITC 2315. An instructor or classroom
assistant will always be available during these times.

One more item in advance: you should install Python
(version 3.2.1) on your personal computer (get it from
python.org). While we have class and study/homework time
in a computer equipped classroom and get hands-on
practice there, you will also need to put in substantial
time for this course outside of the classroom.

If at any time during the semester you have unanswered
questions or need assistance, I urge you to participate
in course discussion using Moodle, to come and see me or
one of the other instructors or classroom assistants
during our office hours (names and contact info
attached).

Good luck with your studies!
