Course Information for EVSC 610,
Environmental Chemical Science

This site will be used as an adjunct to our weekly lectures.

Credit will be given for participation on the site. A portion of your grade will be based on your participation. You will receive points for submitting comments to the discussions. Topics will be posted every 2-3 weeks, and will remain active through the semester. You may comment on the topic, read and comment on your colleagues' postings or point out flaws or omissions in their arguments. Remember: these postings are available to all your classmates as well as other students in other sections of the class. Be  professional. The discussion will be held on the Webboard site.

You may also earn credits by finding and reporting on existing web sites on the internet which address environmental issues, especially those being discussed at the time. You should report the address of the site, and critique its scientific content, pointing out where the science is well explained and where it may be erroneous. These reports should be posted as conference comments. We will collect these critiques and may eventually publish our own public web site as a directory of environmental information, with information on the scientific quality of each site.

Homework assignments consisting of problems from the text are given in the schedule. These will not be collected, but you are strongly urged to do them, as the only way to gain problem solving skills is by practice. The questions will be good practice for examinations. Solutions to the numerical problems will be posted on this site, after the topic has been completed. You should DO the sets before you look at the solutions. It always seems easier after you see the solution!
