Dynamics of DNA: a new model and some applications

Abstract

We propose a nonlinear model derived from first principles to describe bubble dynamics of DNA. Our model equations include a term derived from dissipative effects due to intermolecular vibrational modes. The equations we derive allow for stable pinned kinks which form the bubble. We perform stability analysis and specify the energy requirements for the motion. Some aspects of DNA dynamics such as RNA and DNA transcription, nucleotide excision repair and meiotic recombination are considered.
