Mathematical Modeling of Oxygen Transport to Tissue

Dr. Eric Salathé

Abstract

The physiology of oxygen transport to tissue and the mathematical equations that govern this transport will be discussed. Various boundary value problems that have been used to analyze oxygen transport to tissue will be described. Emphasis will be placed on developing mathematical models of oxygen transport in skeletal muscle that can account for the large scale diffusion resulting from the interaction among very many heterogeneously perfused capillaries that supply the tissue.
