Abstract

In this talk I will discuss the role of fluid dynamics in signalling the lateralization of the body plan of mammals during the embrio development. Our contribution to this problem provides an example of how relatively simple physical thinking may lead to successful predictions in biology. I will also point out a number of open interesting dynamical problems inspired by this phenomenon such as the motion of rotating cilia - the main agents involved in the process - the advection of deformable vesicles, etc.
