Fed 101 Fundamentals of Engineering Design Dr McDermott
Group Laboratory Experiments
1 Robotic material handling workcell
2 Robotic assembly workcell
3 Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) workcell
Students will work in teams to design and develop various robotic and PLC experiments. Each team will program the devices and develop the related workcell and peripherals necessary to implement the experiment.
Individual Automation Project
Each student will design and develop an automated workcell, using the NJIT laboratory robots & PLCs, which will provide for some of the robotic and PLC functions of welding, painting, assembly, material handling and processing etc.
The Project will be presented to the class at the end of the semester.
A Project Report will be developed by each student.
Individual Research Presentation
Each student will investigate an industrial robot, PLC or other computer driven automated device to determine its functions and specifications. The NJIT library, industry documentation and the Internet, including Dr McDermott’s webpage http://web.njit.edu/~mcdermot/ can be used as resources. The results of this research will be presented to the class. Handouts can be used in the presentation. Power Point software is required.
