Publications

Sidhu, Mehtab S. Modeling and Optimization of MapReduce-based Scientific Workflows for Big Data Analytics. NJIT Tenth International Undergraduate Summer Research Symposium; July 27, 2017; Newark, New Jersey: Provost Undergraduate Summer Research

Deployed Hadoop on Amazon EC2 cluster.
Developed and executed traditional MapReduce programs.
Investigated research focusing on improving MapReduce performance by exploring methods to implement hierarchical (parallel) structure.
Modified the Hadoop Online Prototype (HOP) for hierarchical process.
Developed and executed hierarchical MapReduce Programs.
Concluded that the Hierarchical structure improved efficiency of MapReduce by 50-70% for certain applications.

Research

Large Scale Graph Processing on High Performance Computing Cluster

Fall 2017

Setup Message Passing Interface (MPI) cluster with 18 machines.
Implemented a program to compute the dot product in parallel.
Implemented a program to multiply 2 matrices in parallel.

Stochastic Modeling of Membrane Fouling

Fall 2017

Studied the movement of particles passing through a porous membrane.
Developed a 2D simulation in Python of particles passing through a membrane pore.
Varied pore shape, size, and diameter to identify when for maximum/minimum resistance. Implemented A STAR heuristic path finding algorithm to identify blocked pores.

Independent Research (Sophomore)

Fall 2015

Studied bioinformatics-related and biological data.
Researched Short Genetic Variations (SNP) at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database.
Wrote programs in Python to extract function information related to an SNP. Specifically, we were interested in SNPs located at the coding region of the genes.
I queried the sample rs numbers. If a pattern was found, we extracted the SNPs, and generated yes/no depending on whether they are located inside coding regions.
