An Elegy for Megan Kanka
This site examines the rape and murder of seven-year-old Megan Kanka of New Jersey.  The author, Norbert Elliot, laments the child's death by placing her tragedy in the context of child sexual abuse. Major non-clinical and clinical studies are discussed, and the phenomenon of child abuse is analyzed as an act of psychological destruction. After crediting the feminist movement for the raised public consciousness of child sexual abuse, the essay demonstrates the power of feminist theory in allowing an informed policy analysis of the patriarchy surrounding the death of Megan Kanka. The essay closes with a proposed model of care.
