Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

New Jersey Institute of Technology

NJIT’s MS OSHE program is a component of NY-NJ Education and Research Center (NY-NJ ERC). NJIT receives grant money from NIOSH to assist students in training to serve in the Safety Engineering field. The grant's overall objectives are: (1) To meet the needs of national and regional safety and health professionals by providing an adequate supply of qualified personnel to carry out the purposes of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (2) to promote research in the field of safety and health, and (3) to improve the knowledge of safety through collaboration among diverse safety related programs within and beyond NY-NJ ERC.

NJIT offers five to six NIOSH fellowships based on the students’ academic record. A full fellowship pays for in-state tuition and a stipend. Fellowships are awarded for the entire program of the study, subject to student maintaining good academic standing, and continued NIOSH funding.  The fellowship comes with the following conditions. The student must

·         take two ERC level courses - IE 681, and IE 682 as elective courses

·         get involved in various ERC-wide activities, such as, ERC's Annual Scientific Conference, Annual Student Research Day, and ERC Historical Perspectives Tour

Graduates or graduating students with BS degree in Engineering, Science and Technology, with GPA 2.8 or higher, and GRE scores 50 percentile or better are encouraged to apply for admission/transfer to the MS OSHE program at NJIT.  All new matriculated students in the MS OSHE program will automatically be considered for this award.  If interested, you are encouraged to contact:
