Course Description

The objective of this course is to provide non-technical managers with an introduction to Management Information Systems which play an increasingly important role in the success of businesses today.   Students are not expected to come to the course with a “technical” background since the main obejective of the course is to provde students with the tools necessary to effectively utilize management information systems as part of the management process while communicating management requiremtents to technical support staff.

Total Quality Management Principles (TQM) will be integrated into the course material and teaching methods throughout the semester.  There will be weekly performance measurements (quizzes) to assess your progress in mastering the course material along with case studies and a final project.

 A combination of class formats including lecture-discussion, case histories and web based presentations on quality will be utilized.

Course Requirements
1.  You are expected to read all course assignments and discuss them in class.
2. Attendance is required at each class meeting along with active participation is class discussions
3.  Every student will be assigned a chapter “Window” vignette to present in class and include internet references as part of the presentation.
4. Cases will be assigned to groups who will collectively present the case material  presented in the textbook along with the group's analysis of the case.  The analysis must incorporate the concepts discussed in the chapter.    The group must work together and delegate assignments among themselves.  The case presentations will allow the groups to sharpen their knowledge of the course material via-a-vis examples of actual business situations.   All case study presentations will incorporate a power point presentation along with references to appropriate and relvant web sites.
Grading
Grading will be based upon weekly quizzes, case studies, Annotated Bibliography/Project Term Paper, class participation and attendance.

Case Studies 100 Points
Windows Presentation 50 Points
Annotated Bibliography 25 Points
Project/Term Paper 100 Points
Class Participation/Attendance/ 10 Points When Attendance Taken
Final grade = Total Earned Points/530 Maximum Points

Students will be given an opportunity at the end of the semester to review their performance and discuss their final grade. In addition, I am available throughout the semester to facilitate your mastery of the material covered in this course.
