MuDer Jeng (S'89-M'92-SM'96) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, ROC, in 1983 and 1985, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, in 1992. Since August 1992, he has been with National Taiwan Ocean University, Keelung, Taiwan, where he is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering. He was Visiting Scientist at Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) and Unversite de Metz, France, in the summers of 1999 and 2000. He was an associate engineer at the Institute for Information Industry from 1987 to 1988, Taipei, Taiwan. He served as Second Lieutenant Programming Officer at the Military Intelligence Bureau of National Defense Ministry, Taipei, Taiwan, from 1985 to 1987. His research interests include Petri nets, discrete event systems, computer integrated manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing systems, multimedia systems, neural networks, and underwater robotics. In the above areas, he has over 90 publications in journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. Dr. Jeng received the Franklin V. Taylor Outstanding Paper Award
from the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society in 1993. He has annually
been granted Research Award by National Science Council, Taiwan since
1994. He has served as a Guest Editor for IEEE Transactions on Semiconductor
Manufacturing and IEEE Transactions on Robotics & Automation, and
will serve as a Guest Editor for IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine.
He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Robotics & Automation
and on the Editorial Board of International Journal of Computer Integrated
Manufacturing. Dr. Jeng is a Founding Chair of the Technical Committee
on Semiconductor Factory Automation of the IEEE Robotics & Automation
Society. He will serve as the Exhibition Chair for 2003 IEEE Int. Conf.
Robotics & Automation. He has been a program committee member for
the following conferences: 1994, 1998, and 1999 IEEE Int. Conf. Systems,
Man, & Cybernetics; 1997, 1999, and 2001 IEEE Int. Conf. Emerging
Technology & Factory Automation; 1998 IEEE Int. Sym. on Industrial
Electronics; 2000 IEEE Int. Conf. Industrial Electronics; and 2001 and
2002 IEEE Int. Conf. Robotics & Automation. He organized and/or chaired
over 25 sessions in major international conferences. Dr. Jeng is a Senior
Member of IEEE, and is listed in Who's Who in the World, Who's
Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Asia and the Pacific
Nations. |
