1. Rankings of the CS Department at NJIT (CS@NJIT rankings)

Rankings primarily based on research measures and/or peer review.

RR1. (2015 Shanghai rankings.) CS@NJIT ranked 76-100 worldwide, and 40-47 in the US in CS rankings : 2015 CWCU/Shangai Jiao Tong U /Academic Ranking of World Universities in Computer Science - 2015 . The CS Department at NJIT is the only Department/program at NJIT that is ranked, and it is ranked in the Top-100.
- CS@NJIT was ranked 76-100 worldwide in 2014 by CWCU (and implicitly 41-48 in the US).
- CS@NJIT was ranked 51-75 worldwide in 2013 by CWCU.
- CS@NJIT was ranked 76-100 worldwide in 2012 by CWCU in these rankings. In 2011, these rankings were known as Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and
- CS@NJIT was ranked 51-75 worldwide in 2011 by ARWU.
- CS@NJIT was ranked 52-75 worldwide in 2010 by ARWU.
RR2. (2010 NRC survey.) CS@NJIT ranked 66-104 nationally in CS rankings : The National Research Council (NRC) rankings of doctoral CS programs in the US extracted from its 2010 survey (data as available in a report in chronicle.com). NRC ranks US Computer Science programs periodically (every 10 or so years). According to NRC, the Computer Science Department at NJIT is ranked somewhere between rank 66 and rank 104th out of 128 doctoral programs in the US in its most recent (2010) survey.
- Based on research criteria alone, CS@NJIT ranks between rank 41 and 97,
- based on student support criteria CS@NJIT ranks between 89 and 115,
- based on diversity criteria CS@NJIT ranks between 69 and 116, and
- based on "programs are ranked highly if they have similar features to programs viewed by faculty as top-notch" CS@NJIT ranks between 70 and 104.
RR3. (2016/2015/2014 US News & World Report rankings.) CS@NJIT ranked 90th nationally out of 177 doctoral programs in the 2014/2015/2016 US News & World Report (USNWR) rankings of doctoral CS programs. In prior years, in 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2010, CS@NJIT ranked 91. NJIT Programs ranked by USNWR in 2014/2015/2016 include

CS@NJIT ranked 43 in the USA and 146 worldwide in CS Department rankings : 2016 National Taiwan University Ranking (Performance ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities). The CS Department is one of three ranked (the other two are Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering). For the record Electrical Engineering ranked 49th in the USA, and 181st worldwide, and Mechanical Engineering 55th in the USA, and 238th worldwide.
- CS@NJIT ranked 50 in the USA and 155 worldwide in CS Department rankings : 2015 National Taiwan University Ranking (Performance ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities). The CS Department is one of three ranked (the other two are Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering). For the record Electrical Engineering ranked 55rd in the USA, and 176th worldwide, and Mechanical Engineering 54th in the USA, and 195th worldwide.
- CS@NJIT was ranked 50 in the USA, and 150 worldwide in CS Department rankings : 2014 National Taiwan University Ranking (Performance ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities). Electrical Engineering ranked 63rd in the USA, and 251rd worldwide, and Mechanical Engineering 64rd in the USA, and 244th worldwide.
- CS@NJIT was ranked 61 in the USA, and 184 worldwide in the CS Department rankings : 2013 National Taiwan University Ranking (Performance ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities). Electrical Engineering ranked 75rd in the USA, and 203rd worldwide, and Mechanical Engineering 63rd in the USA, and 225th worldwide.
RR5. (2013 Microsoft Academic rankings.) CS@NJIT ranked 110 in the USA among 2334 research units, and 191th in the world among 11340 research units in Top organizations in Computer Science in North America. .
RO5. (2011 ASEE ranking based on Degrees Awarded.) CS@NJIT 5th in the US based on number of degrees (163 total) awarded by a CS program outside of Engineering as reported in the 2011 ASEE report: Engineering by the Numbers (page 18). Overall ranking is 6th if CS programs within Engineering are also included.

3. CS Department Enrollment Figures

CS Factbook Recent year CS Department Enrollment Data (after 2012) are available in the NJIT CS Department Fact page.

Incoming Class (Fall 2010) and Fall 2010 Enrollment. In Fall 2010, we welcomed 72 full-time first-time freshman students, plus 34 transfer undergraduate students. A total of 91 new Master's students joined the Computer Science program, and 5 PhD students. Total enrollment in Computer Science undergraduate and graduate programs was 551 (301 for undergraduate and 250 for graduate of which 52 are PhD students). In addition the CS Department is the home for the Bioinformatics program (9 and 32 for a total enrollment of 41), the Computing and Business program (12 and 13 for a 25 total), and the graduate Software engineering program (Master's level enrollment at 11). Overall Department enrollment in all four programs is 628 students.
