A. Announcements

• Final Exam Third Announcement Office hours for the Exam week have been posted. Follow the relevant link at the top of this page.
• Final Exam Second Announcement Guidelines for the final exam are posted below. MAKE SURE THAT YOU SWITCH OFF ALL MOBILE DEVICES (CELL/MOBILE PHONES,COMPUTERS, DIGITAL PORTABLE DEVICES) before entering the EXAM ROOM. A clean copy of the Handout on red-black trees is allowed in the exam room besides the designated textbook. The material that will be covered includes (more details at the beginning of every online available subject).

  Exam Conflict Resolution: This class is a high-numbered required course

  1. Chapters 1,2,3, and 4.
  2. Appendices A, B, C (review material)
  3. Chapters 6,7,8 (but not section 8.4),9,10,11 (but not section 11.5),12 (but not section 12.4),13.
  4. Chapter 15 introduction to dynamic programming.
  5. Chapter 16 introduction to greedy algorithms and section 16.3 that starts on page 385 of CLRS on Huffman codes.
  6. Chapter 21 on data structures for disjoint sets (but not 21.3 and 21.4).
  7. Chapter 22 (but not proofs, neither section 22.5)
  8. Chapter 23 (emphasis on Section 23.2, proof of correctness optional) .
  9. Chapter 24 introduction and Section 24.3.
  10. Chapter 25 introduction and section 25.2.
  11. Chapter 34 introduction but will not be in the EXAM.
• Final Exam First Announcement The final exam is scheduled for Thu Dec 15, 6pm. For more details, go to handout 1.
• Advanced Warning: Wed Dec 7, 11:30-1pm Office hours will not be held for that period due to a PhD defense participation. Please plan around.
• Textbook Introduction to Algorithms, Second Edition, T. H Cormen, C. E. Leiserson, R. L. Rivest, C. Stein, McGraw-Hill Book Company, 0-07-013151-1. Be careful when you buy the textbook from the NJIT Bookstore. For some time in August the BookStore had the wrong textbook stocked up both for this and the DL sections.
• August 2005 Uptodate syllabus information is now available.
• Fall 2005 Because of scheduling changes, previously posted syllabus information has been revoked. Uptodate information will be posted in late July 2005.
