Clarifications PA 4. Unique docids must be printed as a result of the operations
of section 4. Thus if the same docid say 0 corresponds to file file-1 in process 1
and file-2 in process 2, you must represent both files with docids that are uniquely
globally assigned and consecutive. For example if process 1 has 50 docs and file-2 is the
first document processed in process 2, its docid should be 51.
PS 7 extension I will accept PS 7 solutions as late as April 24 (due date
of PA 4). (Create relevant subdirectory ps7 in directory homework of your cluster account).
PS 8 has been made available. Note: You can only collect up to 250 points
from the Problem Sets; if you have enough points you are not required to do it.(Apr 13)
PA3 and PS 5 Grades have been emailed (Mon Apr 10).
PS 4 Solutions and related material are downloadable.
PS 7 has been posted and PS 6 link problem fixed. (Mar 31). PS 7 might help
you prepare for PA 4 and should be done after PS 6.
Email problems resolved. Expect to hear from me (from alg750) soon.
PS 6 has already been posted as promised in class yesterday. It will familiarize
you with a parallel programming environment.
Email Problems I checked my email this Monday evening and responded
to two emails sent after 10pm this Mon (Mar 27). I have also reported the
email problems to our administrators. Any new developments will be reported
here promptly.
Midterm Exam Performance Based on PS1-PS3 and PA1 only is available in the
protected area.
Advanced Posting of PS4,PS5 PS4 is due one week from Monday (after
the break) and PS5 the Monday after. PS4 is a Ranking-based classic-style
homework (paper and pencil). Note that the PageRank computation algorithm of
the textbook is reproduced in PS4 because the posted version contained a couple
of typos (that were, however, obvious to detect and fix). Please read
the list of typos in the protected area for Subject 5. PS5 allows you
to earn extra programming points by fixing problems in PA1 (reported),
PA2 (to be reported).
Typos in Subject 5 (Last update Mar 9, 2006) Please go to the download area for Subject 5; the typos are
listed there.
Clarifications PA3Some typos first
NOT-n typo (it is NEXT-n) It should have been NEXT-n
(last line of Rule 1) just before the last line of the text.
Logical operators For PA3 we have two: OR and AND. NOT (-) is
a qualifier to a term word. NEXT-n can also be considered a logical operator.
Precedence The wording is what is should be in the paper, the
listing in the sentence "So priority-wise ...". The correct order should have
been -,NEXT-n, AND, OR.
PAs All are out (Mar 6).
PS3 extension (one week) Even if the hard copy was handed out in class ok,
the electronic copy was mishandled (the link to PS3 was pointing to PS2). Therefore
I give a one week-extension for PS3. The new due date falls into the Monday of the
spring-break. You can turn PS3 in person to my office this week (slide it under my
door if I am not there) or alternatively, email it to me to alg750@cs.njit.edu by Mon March 13.
However
email a text attachment or a Word .doc document, but not something that is scanned
(it takes too much time to print and may cause problems especially if it is multi-page).
Subject 5 is out (Feb 23).
Subjects 3,4, PA2 are available (Feb 13, 2006) for download.
Email Problems Tuesday Jan 24, 2006. I have not been able to read email
since early this morning. This affects all @cs.njit.edu email (course or instructor).
Email seems to have been restored around 2:30 in the afternoon.
