04/21 Weather related
There is an extreme weather alert around Northern NJ. Hopefully,
it is nothing. In case however it causes a power or telecom
disruption, it might affect Webex connectivity. This is to alert
you in advance of that possibility.
In such a scenario, there might be a disruption of office hours
today. If it continues through Thursday, it
you may use the already available voiceover for Subject 10 (beyond
regular binary search trees, i.e. AVL trees) and part of Subject 11
of search trees of bounded height.
-
04/20 Voiceove: Sub 11 and 12
Some of you complained about sound issues re Sub11 and Sub12.
I have done them again. Now i have them side by side with the
previous voiceover. If sound quality is the same, they sounded
fine on my laptop, beyond that i have no control.
BTW if you see a 13 instead of a 12 ignore it.

04/16 PS 6 posted
One more problem set unannounced in the syllabus with some
solutions. And no more.

04/09 Subject 9 handwritten notes
I uploaded a corrected version of the notes used in voiceover.
Page 3 referred 4 times to an SHL instead of SHR. The original pdf
of the voiceover had four sticky (yellow) notes to correct that.
The new one has a handwritten correction!
Page 11 uses a Theta(n) instead of Theta (cubic of n) for the number
of operation in matrix multiplication involving square matrices of
order n. Also corrected by hand.

04/06 HW4
The last HW got posted in moodle ahead of time. It covers
material we have already done, and may be one question related
to what will be done on Thu. You may do the traditional way,
or type in the answers to moodle. No hard proofs required.
-
04/06 Final Exam Sketchy Preliminaries
My intent, as of now, is to have a proctored exam using ProctorU.
If this goes ahead in the next few days, I will provide you
with more information. Note that ProctorU requires that you
have access to a laptop with camera, or have a separate camera,
in addition to a microphone and headphones. Usually laptops have
all of them attached. And ProctorU requires that you present
to them a form of photo ID (note sure if it is an NJIT ID, or
driver's license/ passport page).

03/27 HW3 note
As it appears in the calendar (Handout 1: Syllabus) and also in the
Week plan above it is due before noon of Apr 2. You still have the
option of submitting it in the form of a PDF. However i also
allow you to submit text in place of a pdf file. Thus in the
textbox you can have problem number or subnumber (eg 1(a) or 2)
followed by the answer. For special symbols you might use O or BigOh,
Theta, BigOmega, littleOh, littleOmega as needed.
For a more 'formal use' not needed i once created this document

03/26 Videos and Moodle and mediaspace.njit.edu.
From around 4pm today through around 4:50pm it was not possible
to view videos through the moodle links of the course area.
This had nothing to do with moodle or my links.
The server had to deal with too many uploads of
files (videos to be processed) and too many requests for views.
As a result it was rejecting requests for views primarily.
-
03/25 TA/Grader/Assistant contact
You may contact Sherry with email. If you want to talk with her during the
office hour period, she suggested that you use Zoom. A webex session can
be joined by anyone thus there is no privacy or some issues such as those
in the notice below especially if you ask about questions re Exam 2 and
she tries to show you a photo of the exam.
-
03/25 IMPORTANT (WARNING): WebEx connectivity audio issues
Today, Wed, around 2:30pm Webex had connectivity issues: an audio, let
alone a video, connection could not be achieved when webex participation
was started either through the browser or the webex app on a platform
(PC, tablet or otherwise). In case this happens again the following was
suggested as a solution by CISCO: the host terminates and then restarts
the meeting. Thus the participants will need to join it again. So bear
this in mind if we have problems in the future (tomorrow or next week).
An alternative might be the use of Zoom (the CS dept meeting took
place on zoom, after a 15 minute struggle with Webex).

03/19 Final Exam (Exam 3) date
There was a typo in Handout 1 (Syllabus). It incorrectly stated that the
Thu of the exam week was 5/12. IT IS 5/14. The online pdf and html syllabi
have been corrected to reflect this. For archival purposes, you can still
retrieve the prior version. Exam date may change pending NJIT decisions.

03/16,03/15 Tr2On-2: Moodle Exam-2-Construct.
In preparation for the dissemination of grades re Exam 2, i have created an
Exam-2-Construct assignment in moodle. Do it online (i.e. no file submission,
as explained) and the grade assigned would be your Exam 2 grade. If you want to
inspect exam2, we will need to think of something after grading is formally over,
and after the Break.
The grade reported in moodle for Exam 2 is provisional.
It will be finalized after the exams are in the physical possession of the
instructor,
This is going to happen when the University resumes normal operations.
Thus the two week period to dispute a grade re Exam 2 starts then.
If normal operations do not resume by mid April, we will think of something
then, or the period extends further.

03/11@22:12 Covid-19 UPDATE (ITEM 2)
The Provost announced a few hours ago (after 6pm) that classes are
cancelled for the rest of this week. This means there would be NO class
tomorrow Thu 12 Mar. NJIT is still open; therefore i will hold regular
office hours tomorrow, unless something currently unexpected happens.
The plan was to cover material of the second option of the PrP tomorrow in
class. Tomorrow morning i will be preparing some impromptu notes re the
second option of the Prp and also include voice over using a program named
Kaltura. This would approximate what I was planning to do in class.
As soon as this is ready, I will post information on this page with
instructions for retrieval.
We are waiting for some guidance from NJIT. As soon as this becomes available
to us/me, I am going to provide you with more information.
-
03/10@13:21 NJIT President's email
re NJIT's Covid-19 response (ITEM 1)
Thursday's class will be held as scheduled, based on current information.
(Class cancelled.)
As of now, office hours will be held as scheduled (syllabus).
If there are more than one students at the office at the same time,
I will ask only one student to enter the office and meet me and the
other students should be at a safe distance of at least 10 feet.
I will give each present student a 10-min block for round-robin discussion,
renewable for the still present students. Hopefully it will not be
needed, given that the midterm has already been held. More will follow.
I plan, after the BREAK, to generate voiceovers of the remainings
Subject notes using an NJIT program named Kaltura.
For office hours after the BREAK, I may also utilize WebEx.
If you plan to wear a mask or gloves you do not need to ask for
permission and neither be embarassed nor be apologetic about it.
