To develop theoretical models for the evolution of nonlinear, broadband, multi-directional surface waves.
To study the evolution of strongly nonlinear surface and internal solitary waves in stratified flows.
To investigate the stability of stratified flows and periodic waves.
To study two-dimensional resonant and near-resonant wave interactions for surface and internal waves.
To model the surface signatures of large amplitude long internal waves using nonlinear modulation theories.
To better undestand wave breaking process and develop a mathematical model for energy dissipation.
To develop an efficient numerical method to study nonlinear waves interacting with bodies.
To perform small-scale wave tank experiments with various wavemakers to generate periodic and solitary waves.
To work on research projects on nonlinear waves in fluids, free surface flows, and geophysical fluid dynamics.
Multiple experimental and numeical research internships supported by NSF are available to work in the Water Wave Lab.
A postdoc position starting in Sept. 2023 is available to study nonlinear water waves and their interactions. To apply, send a CV, a research statement, and the names of three references electronically to wychoi@njit.edu.
