Protocol and implementation: Investigate effective MAC protocols to enable the interaction between independent or cooperating terminals running DiSC at the DL - PHY layers, and devise solutions to interface DiSC with higher layers of the communication stack, and particularly with the network layer (routing) in multihop networks. Both optimized clean-slate design and solutions that are back-compatible with major existing standards, such as IEEE 802.11 and 16, will be considered. This second thrust is expected to use results from the local analysis and design carried out in the first thrust as basic building blocks. A proof-of-concept implementation over a testbed of GNU radios at the two involved institutions is also planned in collaboration with the Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB).
