1. Labs
Prefered lab for VLSI-I CAD Tools: GITC 2305

2. You will need an AFS account to log onto the Unix systems.

Click Here to apply for an AFS account.

3. Logging on:
Use your UCID username and AFS Password.
Choose Common Desktop Environment (if asked).

4. Unix Basics
Introduction to Unix
Common Unix Commands

5. Make extensive use of different directories and files to organize your designs.
Remember that you will work in this environment for next 4 months!

6. To open MS office (Word, PowerPoint etc) files in the Unix environment you will need StarOffice
Installing StarOffice.

7. Printing on Unix systems.

8. Working on Windows using X-Win.

9. Taking screen snapshots.

10. Donot modify your .cshrc files even if your seniors tell you to do so!!
Last Fall the .cshrc file had to be modified to setup the Mentor Graphics environment. But this Fall the Mentor environment has already been setup!!
