Congratulations! Silu Sheng and Alex Gurvits graduated on 05/17/2010 with an MS and BS, respectively.  Silu will continue in the lab towards a PhD.  Alex plans to attend dental school.

 

Nirupama won a 1st place poster award at the 22nd annual Rutgers-UMDNJ Minisymposium  in Molecular Biophysics, Rutgers, Piscataway, NJ,  05/01/2010. Directed Evolution of CotA Laccase for Increased Substrate Specificity using Bacillus subtilis spores, Nirupama Gupta and Edgardo T. Farinas.

Graduating senior Tin Vo received the second-place silver undergraduate medal for his project, “Altering Substrate Specificity of a-Ketoglutarate Dehydrogenase for Chemical Synthesis,” from the NJIT Dana Knox Student Research Showcase competition on April 14, 2010.  This work was done in collaboration with Prof. Frank Jordan at Rutgers-Newark. Shim is about to enjoy a huge slice of birthday cake (01/28).  She is celebrating by making figures and inducing E1o mutants. She shares her birthday with Prof. Frank Jordan, our collaborator.

Chemistry majors JoAnna DiVincenzo and Charles Poyssick attended the 2009 graduation and discovered that they both work at Merck.

 

Nirupama Gupta's paper, "Narrowing Laccase Substrate Specificity Using Active Site Saturation Mutagenesis" was featured in the March 2009 issue of Combinatorial Chemistry & High-Throughput Screening.

 

Gerardo Tolentino was awarded Honorable Mention for his thermostability studies on laccase at the McNair Symposium (Spring 2009).

 

Chand Shah presented her poster at  236th ACS national meeting, Philadelphia, PA August 18th.  She also was awarded 1st Place/Blue Ribbon at ACS SEED presentation at Seton Hall September 22nd.
