Homework Assignments

There are several kinds of activities in our course. All presentations and discussion will take place on WebBoard. Note that the information here duplicates what is on the schedule. The schedule shows a view week-by-week. This lists all the assignments outright. The links in the numbered items immediately following are to the assignment descriptions in the bullets below.

  1. Each week, several teams will present specific standards on WebBoard.
  2. Each week one team of graduate students will present a particular standards topic.
  3. Each week, everyone will be responsible for discussion on WebBoard. You should keep a record of which discussion comments you post to WebBoard.
  4. During the fifth week of class, instead of reviewing specific standards, all class members will review specific standards organizations.
  5. Twice during the semester you will be choosing the teams that present specific standards. During the third week of class you will choose the standards organization you wish to present. Graduate students also will choose their teams for standard topic presentations. Instructions on choosing teams are described in the corresponding assignments.
  6. There will be a project due in the second half of the semester (in lieu of a midterm).

Plagiarism, Copying, Cheating, and Other Unhappy Occurrences

Unfortunately, we must address plagiarism or copying work that other people have written in homework, reports, articles, or on the Web. If you are going to use more than a few words from someone or somewhere else you must put it in quotation marks and you must cite it (say where you found it). If you paraphrase information from someone or somewhere else, you do not need to put it in quotation marks, but again you must cite it. Generally there is nothing wrong with incorporating other people's ideas to a limited degree, but you must make it clear when you are using and building upon other people's ideas. Plagiarism can result in failing the course and being put on probation. This unfortunately has happened to several students in the past in my classes.

Submitting Forms and Written Assignments

Note: most assignments will be handled on-line in the WebBoard conferences. However, if any will be outside WebBoard, here is how to submit them to me. Also do this for the discussion record forms.

Please do not email forms or assignments, unless you are outside the United States or Canada.

You can fax short items (e.g., record forms) to (973) 596-5777, but please do not fax anything more than a few pages. Please be sure to mark "Professor Bieber" clearly on the first page of your fax!

You should "snail mail" all other materials to:
